Odessa (film by Valery Todorovsky, 2019)
The story of one family against the backdrop of the dramatic events of the 1970 in Odessa. The city was quarantined due to a cholera outbreak. The multimillion-dollar city ended up on a reservation.
At the center of the story are three generations of the Davydov family. Every family has its own secrets, old grievances, unspoken words. A lovely Odessa courtyard will become the scene of a real family drama, but it will be resolved with that real irony that is so characteristic of this city. Mortal danger forces the heroes to recognize their true selves, to commit actions that they did not dare to do in their ordinary lives.

This film practically tells the story of my childhood. 70% of the characters are my real relatives, the film is about them. I was born in Odessa, I remember well the 1970s , the epidemic, when people suddenly realized that they were not just mortal, but, as the classic said, “suddenly mortal.” I saved up all these childhood impressions for many years and at some point I realized that I wanted to make a film about it.
